VASER Liposelection/ Hi Def™

Dr Dennis Wolf is one of the UK's experts in VASER Liposelection, bodycontouring and VASER Hi Def.  An ultrasound technique is used to liquefy fat before it is removed with gentle suction.  This is in comparison to the high pressure vacuum used in traditional liposuction.

There are several different SmartLipo devices on the market now.  VASER has now super ceded the other forms of SmartLipo. The ultrasound breaks down the fat into liquid debris and the liquefied fat can then be removed with gentle suction. The heat of the ultrasound also stimulates collagen growth in the skin, leading to skin tightening which helps achieve a smooth, sculptured look.

Dr Wolf is one of five Hi Definition trained practitioners in the UK.  Although you may not want the Hi Def treatment you will get the expertise and benefit of Dr Wolf's skills in contouring and sculpturing the body.  This will give you the benefit of shadows and lines in the appropriate anatomical areas.

Is VASER suitable for you?

Vaser Lipo can help remove stubborn localised pockets of fat in areas such as love handles, abdomen, double chin, inner and outer thighs, hips, bottom, upper arms, face and male breast. However, it should not be considered a weight-loss procedure. If you are in good health, follow a sensible diet and have an active lifestyle and are not overweight, but you wish to lose stubborn pockets of fat, Vaser Lipo is ideal – whatever your age.

What happens during the procedure?

Dr Wolf will offer you a free, no obligation initial consultation where you can discuss your needs. This is a good opportunity to discuss the procedure in detail, raise any concerns, expectations, and find out how much it will cost. The length of the procedure itself may range from as little as 45 minutes to two hours depending on how many areas are treated. After local anaesthetic is applied to the area, the ultrasound probe is inserted through a tiny incision (3-5mm) in the skin. If more areas are treated at once he may decide to perform the procedure under conscious sedation (twilight sedation). The ultrasound breaks down the fat into a liquid debris. Dr Wolf uses aspiration (suction) in most cases as this enables larger amounts to be removed and can usually speed up the results. Most patients start to see improvements around six to eight weeks and final results after six to seven months (sometimes even longer), depending on the treatment area. If, however, you want to remove a large amount of fat, you may need a further session six months after the first.

Does it hurt?

All Vaser lipo treatments are performed using only local anaesthetic. You will therefore be awake. Most find the procedure easily tolerable and comfortable. Some experience some tugging and occasional minor stinging.

What aftercare is needed?

After having a Vaser lipo treatment, patients wear a special compression garment for 14 days (24 hours a day) to help minimise bruising and swelling (or two to three days if you are having a facial treatment).  It is then recommended to wear it for a further 2-4 weeks (8-10 hours a day).  Antibiotics are also usually given to further reduce the risk of infection. You will be given full post-treatment written and verbal guidelines. We recommend eating a sensible low fat diet, drinking plenty of water and maintaining a healthy exercise routine afterwards, however it isn't advisable to take part in any strenuous sports for 14 days or to have an intense massage for four to five weeks. If, however, you wish to speed up the results, we recommend having Endermologie treatments.

What is MLD?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a very gentle type of massage that will assist in relieving the swelling.  It can be performed on the same say as the VASER treatment or in the following days.  The number of treatments required varies on the area that has been treated.  Generally anything from 4-6 sessions are required.  Occasionally the therapist will recommend more if the swelling is still prominent.  Dr Wolf insists that all his patients have MLD treatment sessions.  Therapists can be found on www.mlduk.org.uk.

Are there any side-effects?

Vaser lipo has been used in other countries for years and thousands of treatments have been performed without any serious problems reported. Most people report a dull background ache for a few days and occasional mild bruising. You may also experience some swelling, especially during the first few days. You will be able to leave the clinic straight after your treatment and although we usually advise home rest for a few hours, if necessary you could return to your day to day non-strenuous activities immediately.

Are results guaranteed?

Yes. During your initial free pre-treatment consultation Dr Wolf will assess your suitability for Vaser lipo. Once your expectations and goals are agreed, pre-treatment photos are taken. After your treatment you will routinely be offered two follow-up appointments- three months and six months after your treatment. Providing your BMI has not risen, if there is no noticeable difference between the before and after photographs six months after your treatment, we will repeat the treatment free of charge.
